Joint Replacement Surgeries

Joint replacement surgeries, also known as arthroplasty, are performed to replace damaged or diseased joints with artificial prosthetic components, typically made of metal, ceramic, or high-grade plastic. These procedures are primarily done to relieve pain, restore joint function, and improve the quality of life in patients suffering from severe arthritis, trauma, or joint degeneration. The most common types of joint replacement surgeries include hip, knee, shoulder, and elbow replacements.

Modern advancements such as minimally invasive techniques, robotic-assisted surgery, and customized implants have improved surgical precision, reduced recovery time, and enhanced long-term outcomes. Post-surgical rehabilitation, including physiotherapy and strength training, plays a vital role in ensuring successful recovery and optimal joint function.

Types of Joint Replacement Surgeries
  • Total Knee Replacement (TKR) – Used for advanced osteoarthritis and severe knee joint damage.
  • Total Hip Replacement (THR) – Performed for hip arthritis, fractures, or avascular necrosis.
  • Shoulder Replacement – Indicated for rotator cuff arthropathy, severe arthritis, or fractures.
  • Elbow & Ankle Replacement – Less common but beneficial for end-stage joint diseases in these areas.
