Arthritis Treatment
Arthritis is a condition characterized by joint inflammation, pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It affects people of all ages, with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis being the most common types. The treatment of arthritis aims to relieve symptoms, improve joint function, and prevent further damage. Depending on the severity and type, management may involve medications, physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, and in severe cases, surgical interventions. Early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach are essential for effective management and maintaining a good quality of life.
Non-Surgical Treatment
- Medications – Pain relievers (NSAIDs, acetaminophen), corticosteroids, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) for rheumatoid arthritis
- Physical Therapy – Strengthening exercises, range-of-motion activities to improve flexibility
- Lifestyle Changes – Weight management, low-impact exercises (swimming, yoga), and a balanced diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods
- Assistive Devices – Braces, orthotic insoles, and mobility aids for joint support
Surgical Treatment (For Severe Cases)
- Joint Replacement Surgery – Total or partial replacement of severely damaged joints (e.g., knee or hip replacement)
- Arthroscopy – Minimally invasive surgery to remove damaged tissue or debris
- Osteotomy – Bone realignment to reduce joint stress in younger patients
Alternative & Supportive Therapies
- Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, Hydrotherapy – Helps in pain relief and improving mobility
- Supplements – Glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega-3 fatty acids may support joint health
- Pain Management Techniques – Heat and cold therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)
